Mission Locals internship program
Mission Local, a nonprofit news site based in San Francisco, is dedicated to reporting on critical issues affecting low-income and minority communities, which comprise significant portions of the city's population. Originating as a UC Berkeley journalism project in 2008, it gained independence in 2014 and has since garnered numerous accolades for its work, including awards for its coverage of the Covid pandemic and local elections. The organization is currently seeking interns for a 12-week summer program, targeting roles in reporting, business, and design. Interns will benefit from mentorship and training, joining a network of alumni who have gone on to work at major news outlets across the United States. Mission Local emphasizes the importance of addressing stories that often go unreported, aiming to reach low-information voters and enhance community engagement.
With a weekly pay of $850, this internship presents an excellent opportunity for aspiring journalists and professionals looking to make a difference in local news. The organization continues to uphold its commitment to diversity and impactful journalism, fostering a new generation of reporters.
