RTDs annual Stuff the Bus campaign gathers donations for Stockton Emergency Food Bank - Local News Matters
The San Joaquin Regional Transit District (RTD) conducted its 27th annual Stuff the Bus food drive to benefit the Stockton Emergency Food Bank, gathering donations at Food 4 Less. The initiative collected bus-loads of non-perishable items and turkeys, responding to heightened demand due to rising food prices and SNAP benefit uncertainties. Maximilian Cao, RTD's public information officer, highlighted that the District Attorney's office contributed 1,340 pounds of food ahead of the event. The drive is critical as the food bank faces challenges from recent SNAP disruptions linked to a federal government shutdown. Community partnerships have strengthened the collection effort, with local organizations joining in to host their own food drives.
Donations, including significant contributions from residents like Anne Garcia, who rallied 3,800 pounds of turkeys, showcase community spirit. Alessia Pichler from the food bank praised the turnout, emphasizing the support from residents who understand the need. The food bank is preparing for distributions, utilizing the donations to address local food insecurity.
