Stockton turns to residents to pick a name for its new neighborhood park near Hwy 99 - Local News Matters

San Francisco, CALocal News

Stockton city officials have initiated a process for residents to name the new Cannery Park, a 4. 96-acre space located at 3993 Stapleton Drive. The nomination period runs through January 20, 2026, allowing community members to submit their suggestions online or using a printed form. Names that honor individuals with over 25 years of service or reflect the local geography or history are encouraged. Community services director Kris Farro emphasized that all submissions will be considered by the city's Naming Committee.

This committee includes representatives from various city departments and will forward their recommendations to the City Council for approval. Any names not selected will be retained for three years for potential use in naming other parks or facilities. The new park is funded through the Stockton Consolidated Landscape Maintenance Assessment District, which aims to support ongoing park maintenance. This initiative engages residents in local development and fosters community pride.
