Anticipating Campbell Library reopening like a suspense novel, delayed to early next year - Local News Matters

San Francisco, CALocal News

The grand opening of the Campbell Library has been postponed to early next year as construction is finalized. Jennifer Weeks of the Santa Clara County Library District noted that the interior work, including the setup of books and technology, is still ongoing. The renovation, which cost $20. 5 million and was funded by Measure O, aims to create a modern and environmentally friendly space for community activities. City Manager Brian Loventhal stressed that taking extra time to ensure everything is right is worthwhile for the community.

The previous library, opened in 1975, was demolished in 2018, paving the way for this new facility designed with natural light and a calming aesthetic. Loventhal highlighted the library's reimagined layout and increased meeting spaces in response to public requests. The Express Library next to the Orchard City Banquet Hall remains operational until the new library opens. The county is also working to make the library fully electric, which has contributed to the extended timeline.
