S.F. to pay landlords 1 months rent to house RV dwellers
Mayor Daniel Lurie unveiled a $450,000 pilot program to encourage landlords to hold vacant units for families and single adults residing in RVs. This program is part of Lurie’s comprehensive $37. 5 million “Breaking the Cycle” initiative targeting homelessness in San Francisco. It prioritizes 325 RV residents who have already qualified for a rental subsidy offered by the city. Critics contend that the city does not have enough vacant units to accommodate the hundreds of eligible RV dwellers.
Many RV residents faced difficulties in securing temporary permits, further complicating their housing situation. The matching process for landlords and RV dwellers will be facilitated by Catholic Charities. Lurie highlighted the necessity of providing stable housing options for families living in vehicles. The program aims to expedite the transition into permanent housing for those who are ready.
