Oakland Mayor Barbara Lee noted the profound impact Beam had on the youth of the city, calling for action against gun violence. Over his 45-year career in coaching, Beam developed more than 30 NFL players, including seven who participated in the Super Bowl. His legacy is remembered fondly by former players and local officials, including NBA star Damian Lillard, who praised him as a "true Oakland legend.
