Larkspur paves the way with highest scores in annual report on Bay Area road conditions
Larkspur leads the Bay Area with the highest pavement condition index score of 87, according to a recent report from the Metropolitan Transportation Commission. The MTC evaluated 44,000 miles of local roads and assigned an overall score of 67, categorized as "fair. " Larkspur's remarkable rise from a "poor" score below 50 in 2017 is attributed to two sales tax measures that funded street rehabilitation. Other top jurisdictions include Palo Alto, Cupertino, and Orinda, while Vallejo's three-year average of 44 marks it as the only area in the "poor" category. MTC Chair Sue Noack stated that local governments are successfully preventing major road deterioration, despite the challenges of improving the overall score.
The MTC report also noted St. Helena's significant improvement, raising its score from 52 to 63. The region's overall score has remained unchanged for a decade, suggesting stability in road conditions. The full list of jurisdiction scores is accessible on the MTC website.
