Emergency weekend meal program launched for students facing hunger in Gilroy - Local News Matters

Community leaders in Gilroy implemented a weekend meal program to address food insecurity among families affected by the suspension of SNAP/CalFresh benefits. The Gilroy Unified School District reported growing concerns about weekend hunger among students dependent on school meals. In collaboration with Community Seva Inc. , volunteers prepared and distributed around 800 boxed meals from a kitchen in Santa Clara last weekend. The initiative will continue on Saturdays and Sundays through November, aiming to alleviate hunger in the community.
