Day 207 at the 16th St. Plaza Trucks move onto the plaza

San Francisco, CALocal News

Mission Street has transformed significantly, especially on the west side, where the reduction of street vendors is attributed to increased police presence and parked BART trucks acting as a deterrent. Terraine Miller, a supervisor with Ahsing Solutions, commented that the west side has become "almost boring" due to these changes. Conversely, the east side continues to face issues after 5 p. m. , with the city planning an affordable housing project that will limit vendor space.

Miller noted that police patrols have helped maintain a calmer environment. The shift in gathering spots is evident, with individuals moving from Capp Street to the north side of 16th Street near Marshall Elementary School. Caledonia Street has also seen improvements, being nearly clear during recent visits, although conditions could change after evening hours. This ongoing situation reflects broader efforts to manage vendor activity and enhance public safety. As construction on the housing project is set to begin early next year, further changes are expected in the area.
