Steve Fondacaro emphasized the importance of community connection and comprehensive services available at the event. Santa Clara County has made notable progress in addressing veteran homelessness, achieving a “functional zero” status in 2020, with nearly 3,000 veterans housed since then. Participants like Walter Bateast and Paul Almeida highlighted the Stand Down's role in fostering a welcoming environment and providing essential resources. The event aims to bridge the gap for veterans transitioning to civilian life, addressing both mental health needs and practical assistance. As veterans like Lee Blake share their stories, the Stand Down remains a vital resource for the community.
