S.F. begins towing RVs. Dozens more are at risk.

San Francisco, CALocal News

San Francisco's enforcement of a two-hour parking limit for RVs began on Wednesday, leading to the towing of multiple vehicles in the Bayview neighborhood. Aiol Williams, a resident whose RV is currently immobile, fears towing as he awaits a permit extension he did not receive despite filing an appeal. Activists Hans Ege Wenger and Zach Bollinger have devoted months to educating RV owners about the ban, counting 41 vehicles in Bayview at risk of being towed. The city allocated $12. 9 million to assist approximately 400 individuals living in RVs, with 165 rapid rehousing vouchers already distributed.

However, the available housing options fall short of meeting the needs of the growing RV population. Many residents like Anthony choose to remain in their RVs, viewing them as their only affordable housing option in San Francisco. The situation reflects the ongoing struggle between city enforcement measures and the urgent housing crisis. The permit program offers some relief, but many are left to navigate the streets without proper documentation.
