San Joaquins rail service goes for the gold with new name and rebranded equipment - Local News Matters
Amtrak's San Joaquins service has been rebranded as the Gold Runner, according to the San Joaquin Joint Powers Authority (SJJPA). This name change reflects California's iconic "golden" hills and signifies a new era for intercity passenger rail and bus service. The Gold Runner operates daily between the Bay Area and Bakersfield, stopping at 18 stations along a 365-mile route, making it the sixth-most popular Amtrak route in the nation. The rebranding features vibrant new wraps in yellow, blue, and purple on the train cars and extends to the agency's Thruway buses, which serve 135 cities and towns across California. SJJPA Interim Executive Director David Lipari highlighted the rebrand's role in aligning with California's broader rail strategy, which includes the California High-Speed Rail Project.
This strategy aims to connect the Bay Area to Los Angeles and Anaheim via the Central Valley. Lipari stated that the new identity captures the energy and optimism of the region, reflecting a spirit of partnership and innovation. The rebranding comes at a crucial time as the agency plans to expand its services to enhance public transit options in the state.
