Mayor Lurie Cuts Ribbon On New Affordable Housing in Bayview
Mayor Daniel Lurie inaugurated the Oscar James Residences, consisting of 112 affordable housing units in Bayview-Hunters Point. The project aims to support households earning 30%–50% of the area median income, marking a significant step in the revitalization of the Hunters Point Shipyard. Lurie highlighted the role of community partnerships in addressing housing needs during the ribbon-cutting ceremony. District 10 Supervisor Shamann Walton praised the development as a tribute to community advocate Oscar James, who has fought for fair housing for decades. The new buildings will be fully electric and feature amenities such as a fitness center and community room.
This initiative is part of Lurie’s broader strategy to enhance affordable housing options across San Francisco, which has seen a growing demand for such units. Earlier this year, Lurie announced his Family Zoning plan to create more housing opportunities. The project exemplifies a commitment to sustainability, incorporating advanced air quality and water conservation measures.
