New Mission mural honors La Victoria, welcomes Cinderella Bakery
Cinderella Bakery is set to open a new location in San Francisco's Mission District, taking over the site of the beloved La Victoria panadería. The bakery commemorates this transition with a vibrant mural titled "Viva Victoria," which integrates Russian nesting dolls and Mexican cultural elements. Commissioned by the bakery's owners, the mural showcases contributions from various community artists and was designed to honor La Victoria's legacy. Initially, some local activists expressed concern over the bakery's arrival, viewing it as a potential gentrification threat. However, as the project progressed, community sentiment shifted to embrace the bakery.
The mural features significant symbols, including a monarch butterfly, representing both cultural heritage and immigrant rights. Susan Cervantes, who directed the mural project, highlighted the importance of blending Latino and Russian cultures. Cinderella Bakery's opening next year marks a noteworthy addition to the Mission's diverse culinary landscape.
