San Francisco, CALocal News

Ukiah High School journalism teacher Matthew LaFever was arrested for allegedly soliciting inappropriate photos from a 17-year-old student. Authorities received a tip on October 16 about LaFever's inappropriate comments towards minors, prompting an investigation that revealed he had contacted multiple students. Police confirmed LaFever used variations of the screenname "Johhnyender" to reach out to minors on social media. He was arrested at his home and booked into Mendocino County Jail, later posting a $10,000 bond for release. The Ukiah Unified School District placed LaFever on administrative leave and is cooperating with law enforcement.

District superintendent Deb Kubin emphasized the safety of students as a priority and announced an internal investigation. School counselors are available to support students during this time. LaFever's case highlights the ongoing issue of inappropriate conduct by educators towards students.
