Photos Da de los Muertos procession draws thousands to Mission District
The 44th annual Día de los Muertos procession in San Francisco's Mission District drew more than 1,000 attendees on Sunday. Aztec dancers led the vibrant procession, which included performers and community members holding candles and photos of their deceased loved ones. Street vendors offered traditional items like flowers and candy skulls, enhancing the festive atmosphere. Jessica Fein created an altar in Potrero del Sol Park to honor her daughter, Dalia, who passed away in 2022. This was Fein's first Day of the Dead celebration in the city, where she felt a strong connection to her daughter's heritage.
The event highlighted the cultural significance of the Day of the Dead, allowing families to celebrate their loved ones openly. Many participants dressed as La Catrina and El Catrín, embracing the rich traditions associated with the holiday. The gathering emphasized community support and connection in the face of grief.
