Mayor Lurie Celebrates New Affordable Housing in Sunnydale

San Francisco, CALocal News

Mayor Daniel Lurie inaugurated two new affordable housing developments, Amani and Nia, in Sunnydale, adding over 390 homes for low-income families. The ceremony also marked the groundbreaking of Blocks 7 and 9, which will further the city's efforts to provide affordable housing. Lurie emphasized the importance of building housing that allows families to establish roots in San Francisco, reflecting his broader strategy to make the city more affordable. The HOPE SF initiative is transforming public housing by replacing 775 aging units with over 1,700 high-quality, energy-efficient homes. District 10 Supervisor Shamann Walton underscored that these developments not only provide housing but also foster community stability and belonging.

The newly completed Amani and Nia buildings reserve 75% of their units for current Sunnydale residents, ensuring that long-term residents benefit from this revitalization. The initiative also invests in infrastructure and community amenities, enhancing the overall quality of life in Sunnydale. This project represents a significant step towards addressing the housing crisis and supporting low-income families in San Francisco.
