Alum Rock school district parents call for trustee Quintero to return funds or resign - Local News Matters
Parents and advocates from the Alum Rock Union School District are demanding that Board Vice President Andres Quintero reimburse $22,700 for Ph. D. coursework or resign, citing violations of board bylaws. Nearly 250 signatures on a petition highlight concerns over the misuse of public funds, particularly as the district faces a $20 million deficit. Quintero defended his actions at a board meeting, claiming that his reimbursements for professional development were approved by previous superintendents and complied with district policies.
However, former Superintendent German Cerda, who was fired for probing board reimbursements, stated that Quintero still owes the district about $5,000 for health benefits. The Santa Clara County Office of Education is currently auditing the district’s financial practices following these issues. Trustee Minh Pham voiced his agreement with the petitioners, emphasizing the importance of restoring community trust through a complete and impartial examination. Alum Rock parent Chrystine Villarreal expressed frustration over a board member benefiting at the expense of students. Quintero maintains he followed proper procedures and challenged those making accusations to report any illegal behavior to the district attorney.
