Mayor Lurie Signs Legislation to Launch Major Downtown Development, Accelerate Downtown Recovery

San Francisco, CALocal News

Mayor Daniel Lurie signed legislation to advance a significant development at 530 Sansome Street in San Francisco's Financial District. The project will deliver a new fire station, a 41-story mixed-use tower featuring office, hotel, and retail spaces, and a reimagined public plaza. Cosponsored by Supervisor Danny Sauter, this initiative seeks to revitalize the downtown area and enhance public safety, as crime has dropped over 40% in key districts. The development is projected to generate over $800 million in annual economic activity and includes nearly $15 million earmarked for affordable housing. Mayor Lurie underscored the necessity of a vibrant downtown for the city's recovery, while Supervisor Sauter noted the project's significance for neighborhood safety and affordable housing.

The innovative financing mechanism will offset construction costs for the fire station through hotel tax revenues. Spanning approximately 24,830 square feet, the project will create a lively destination in a crucial area of the city. Related California is partnering with the city to bring this vision to life.
