Roombas scattering hot pink glitter take stage at Asian Art Museum

"Rave into the Future: Art in Motion," opening at the Asian Art Museum on October 24, features eight robot vacuums that scatter glitter, enhancing the immersive experience of the exhibition. Curated by Naz Cuguoğlu, the exhibit focuses on women and queer artists from West Asia, presenting a personal journey through the lens of dance culture. Joe Namy's installation, "Disguise as Dancefloor," includes a copper floor that captures visitors' imprints, symbolizing the transformative power of dance. Cuguoğlu envisions the exhibition as both an art space and a communal gathering, with designated areas for relaxation and reflection, including oversized bean bags and Adirondack chairs. The exhibition also incorporates a working DJ deck and a schedule of events, including Baby Raves, to foster community involvement and celebrate local talent.

Moreshin Allahyari's reflective piece, "She Who Sees the Unknown," uses Islamic mythology to create engaging visuals that mirror viewers. This exhibition marks a significant shift under new director Dr. Soyoung Lee, emphasizing the museum's commitment to inclusivity and contemporary art. Cuguoğlu's curation invites visitors to explore their own connections to dance and movement, making the experience both personal and communal.
