Muni Metro Light Rail service resumes in SF following equipment issues, SFMTA says

San Francisco, CALocal News

Muni Metro subway service in San Francisco resumed Wednesday evening after a five-hour disruption due to an overhead wire issue near the Powell station. The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) issued an alert around 2:20 p. m. , indicating repairs were required for the overhead wire. Buses provided transportation along Market Street, while multiple light-rail lines, including the J-Church and N-Judah, turned back at designated stops.

By 7:30 p. m. , SFMTA confirmed that overhead wire testing was complete and service resumed in both directions. The agency pledged to make service adjustments to ensure balance across operations. Despite the disruption, no injuries were reported, and passengers were able to use alternative transport options.

The cause of the equipment malfunction remains unclear. Such disruptions highlight the importance of maintaining infrastructure for public transit reliability.
