Bay Area planners unveil new 25-year roadmap for housing, transit and climate goals - Local News Matters
Draft Plan Bay Area 2050+ aims to guide the region's growth through 2050, emphasizing housing affordability and climate resilience. The Metropolitan Transportation Commission and the Association of Bay Area Governments unveiled the plan, which includes measures for a 21% reduction in per-person greenhouse gas emissions by 2035 and a projected 25% decline in housing and transportation costs. If fully implemented, low-income households could see nearly half of these costs reduced. The draft also proposes significantly increasing access to public transit and expanding protected open spaces. More than 17,000 residents contributed feedback through surveys and public meetings, showcasing community engagement in the planning process.
The MTC and ABAG will host webinars starting Oct. 29, followed by public hearings in San Francisco, Fremont, and Novato. Public comments will be accepted until Dec. 18, with a final plan set for adoption in early 2026. This comprehensive approach aims to create a more affordable and sustainable Bay Area.
