Novato City Council to weigh tentative police union agreements with 11 raises

San Francisco, CALocal News

Novato's police unions have reached tentative agreements that propose an 11% salary increase over three years, following a three-day strike by other city employees earlier this month. The agreements are retroactive to July 1 and will extend through June 30, 2028, with terms mirroring those offered to other employee groups. Police officers and corporals will receive raises of up to 3. 26%, while sergeants, lieutenants, and captains will see adjustments of up to 1. 7%.

The Novato City Council is set to review these agreements in its upcoming meeting on Tuesday. The strike, which began on August 5, was hailed by union leaders as a critical step in ongoing negotiations with the city. Talks are still in progress with Service Employees International Union Local 1021, representing various city employees. Additional "equity adjustments" will be implemented in the first year to align salaries closer to the market median. The agreements signify a significant step in addressing salary disparities among city workers.
