USS Hornet Museum in Alameda hosts event to celebrate 80th anniversary of WWIIs end
The USS Hornet Museum in Alameda will commemorate the 80th anniversary of World War II's end with a celebratory event on August 30, running from 10:30 a. m. to 7 p. m. The agenda includes panel discussions featuring historians and individuals with personal ties to the war, along with music, dance, and a fashion show showcasing over 48 dresses.
Russell Moore, the museum’s chief experience officer, emphasized the importance of preserving WWII history through community events as the number of living veterans diminishes. The WWII Pacific War Memorial Hall, a key partner, will help curate the day's activities and stress the historical collaboration between the U. S. and China. Betty Yuan from the memorial hall pointed out the need for younger generations to recognize the significance of peace and friendship between the two nations amid current tensions.
Jonathan Ginsburg from the Global Friendship City Association echoed these sentiments, noting that understanding the military cooperation foundation of U. S. -China relations is more important now than ever. Tickets are available online, priced at $40 for adults and lower rates for seniors and students. Free shuttles will transport attendees from various locations across the Bay to the USS Hornet.
