Two-Alarm Fire In Sunset District Leaves One Injured, One Cat Dead, Three Homes Damaged
A two-alarm fire broke out in San Francisco's Outer Sunset neighborhood early Wednesday, injuring one person and resulting in the death of a cat. The blaze began around 6 am at a three-story home on 47th Avenue, quickly spreading to two adjacent homes. Firefighters rescued three adults, one initially in critical condition after jumping from a window, but later stabilized. Fire Chief Dean Crispin noted that the balloon-frame construction of the first home exacerbated the fire's rapid spread. Firefighters continued to extinguish the blaze even after it was deemed under control.
Two additional individuals suffered minor injuries and opted not to go to the hospital. The incident highlights the dangers of balloon-frame construction in residential areas. The fire's impact on the community raises concerns about fire safety in similar neighborhoods.
