Pickett Fire, Which Began Thursday In Calistoga, Grows to 2,133 Acres
The Pickett Fire in Napa County has rapidly expanded to over 2,100 acres with no containment reported. Cal Fire has mobilized 435 firefighters and 75 engines to address the growing threat, which began on Thursday afternoon near Calistoga. Evacuation orders encompass several zones, including areas with vineyards and wineries that were affected by the 2020 Glass Fire. Firefighters engaged in suppression efforts overnight, utilizing night-flying helicopters for water drops and dozers to create access roads. Cal Fire Division Chief Ryan Isham indicated that overnight humidity helped reduce fire activity, allowing for strategic water drops.
The fire's growth poses risks not only to the local environment but also to the agricultural economy, particularly the wine industry. As conditions remain hot and dry, officials continue to monitor the situation closely. Residents are urged to stay informed about evacuation orders and warnings as the fire progresses.
