New Davenport substation approved for Santa Cruz sheriff, Parks Department offices
The Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors finalized a lease for a new Sheriff’s substation at 450 Highway 1 in Davenport, enhancing public safety in anticipation of increased visitors to the Cotoni-Coast Dairies National Monument. The North Coast Sheriff’s Service Center will occupy a shared 5,097-square-foot space with the county Parks Department, with a five-year lease costing $2,650 monthly. The lease includes a 3% annual increase and allocates $2,150 monthly for the Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Chris Clark stated that the facility formalizes their commitment to the North Coast community, allowing for quicker responses and direct engagement with residents and visitors. The center will employ a community policing deputy and a part-time sergeant, supplemented by volunteers for various services.
Supervisor Justin Cummings noted the efficiencies gained by colocating with County Parks. The new facility is expected to support trail maintenance and other services for the national monument, which just opened last week. Overall, the substation represents a significant investment in both public safety and quality of life for the North Coast region.
