Vacaville City Attorney Melinda Stewart announces retirement after 30-year career

Vacaville City Attorney Melinda Stewart will conclude her three-decade career in December 2025. Hired in 1995 as deputy city attorney, she advanced to assistant city attorney in 2003 and has led the office since 2016. Stewart’s involvement in landmark projects, such as the redevelopment of the Nut Tree property and the development of Lagoon Valley, has significantly influenced the city's growth. She also addressed legal challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, demonstrating her adaptability in turbulent times. Under her guidance, the city attorney's office has supported a community of approximately 102,000 residents.

Stewart's retirement represents a pivotal change as Vacaville seeks to fill her role. The city now faces the task of finding a successor who can maintain the legal standards she established. This transition may also provide an opportunity for new initiatives in local governance.
