AC Transit, union reach deal in new contract
AC Transit and the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 192 finalized a landmark four-year labor contract benefiting over 1,800 employees, including bus operators, clerks, and transit agents. The agreement introduces provisions for de-escalation during disputes, competitive pay, and enhanced safety measures. ATU Local 192 approved the contract with 72% of votes in favor, and it received unanimous support from the AC Transit Board of Directors. This contract follows recent adjustments to 85% of AC Transit’s routes, aimed at improving service reliability and responding to post-COVID-19 rider patterns. Sal Llamas, CEO of AC Transit, praised the collaborative efforts that led to this transformative agreement.
The contract is effective immediately and will conclude on June 30, 2029. This development marks a significant milestone in labor relations for the transit agency, reflecting a commitment to employee welfare and service improvement. AC Transit aims to enhance transit operations and customer service through this new agreement.
