SFUSD Payroll Snafus Still Abound, Despite 20 Million New Payroll System
The San Francisco Unified School District's new $20 million payroll system, Frontline, is struggling with significant payroll issues as the new school year commences. Reports indicate that around 150 employees have experienced missing or delayed paychecks, raising concerns among educators who fear a recurrence of the widespread problems seen with the previous EMPower system. The United Educators of San Francisco filed an unfair-practice labor complaint, emphasizing their expectation for timely and accurate payments. Frank Lara, UESF's executive vice president, noted that similar excuses for payroll errors have resurfaced, pointing to a lack of preparedness for unique payroll circumstances. School board president Phil Kim defended the new system, asserting that over 97% of paychecks issued have been accurate.
The district, which had previously spent a total of $34 million on the now-scrapped EMPower system, faces pressure to rectify these ongoing issues. As the district gears up for the first full payrolls of the month, educators remain anxious about potential widespread payroll errors. Timely resolution of these issues is crucial for maintaining staff morale and ensuring educators receive their rightful compensation.
