Truck Carrying Tesla Batteries Overturns on I-80 Near Truckee, Prompting Complex Cleanup

San Francisco, CALocal News

A big rig carrying Tesla batteries overturned on westbound I-80 near Truckee, resulting in significant traffic delays. The accident occurred around 7 a. m. near Hirschdale Road, close to the California-Nevada border. The California Highway Patrol confirmed there were no injuries, but cleanup will be complex due to the nature of the cargo, as indicated in a Facebook post.

Google Maps reported delays of up to 57 minutes as of 12:20 p. m. , with traffic moving slowly for several miles. This incident recalls a similar crash from a year ago, where a Tesla semi truck's battery fire led to lengthy road closures. In contrast, authorities stated that there was no fire in this latest case.

The CHP encourages drivers to remain patient and use the delay as an opportunity for mindfulness. The situation highlights ongoing concerns regarding the transportation of electric vehicle batteries on highways.
