Mt. Diablo High School community grieves student, 16, killed in Walnut Creek crash

Alina Safi, a 16-year-old student from Mt. Diablo High School, died in a tragic head-on collision in Walnut Creek on Saturday afternoon. Police reported the crash occurred around 4:40 p. m. on Ygnacio Valley Road, where Safi was pronounced dead at the scene.

Four others involved in the crash were taken to hospitals, including a juvenile who was flown to UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital. Principal Markell McCain expressed condolences to the school community, noting Safi's vibrant presence and the profound loss felt by all. A GoFundMe page created in her honor has raised over $4,700, describing her as a gentle soul with a radiant smile. The incident also involved a dog that was rescued by a good Samaritan and taken for care at a veterinary clinic. This tragic event highlights the ongoing concerns regarding road safety in the area.

Community members are mourning the loss while reflecting on the importance of safe driving practices.
