Ukiah invites community to journey through the cosmos at Friday space party

San Francisco, CALocal News

Ukiah's Star Party offers a unique opportunity for residents to engage with the cosmos on Friday at Observatory Park. The event begins with “Bounce to the Stars! ” from 5 to 8 p. m. , featuring bounce houses and presentations in an inflatable planetarium led by NASA ambassador Elizabeth Garcia.

Afterward, knowledgeable docents from Sonoma County’s Robert Ferguson Observatory will guide telescope observations from 8:30 to 10:30 p. m. Attendees can also explore the historic Ukiah Latitude Observatory, one of six built globally in 1897 for measuring the Earth's axis wobble, now a rare remaining structure. The event will include food trucks to cater to hungry guests, creating a festive atmosphere for aspiring astronomers. This gathering not only promotes science education but also strengthens community ties through shared experiences.

The Star Party showcases Ukiah's commitment to engaging its residents in educational and cultural events. Such initiatives are essential for fostering a love of science and exploration within the community.
