SFUSD educators hold protest as some still missing back pay ahead of new school year 'Unacceptable'
San Francisco educators are raising alarms over payroll discrepancies just before the new school year, with about 100 teachers reporting issues with their paychecks. At a press conference, leaders from the United Educators of San Francisco (UESF) emphasized the urgency of the matter, having already filed a complaint with the state labor board. Union leaders labeled the situation "unacceptable," highlighting that many educators are struggling to meet basic financial obligations and facing eviction notices. Superintendent Dr. Maria Su addressed the issue, assuring the community that the new payroll system, which has a 97% accuracy rate, would not replicate past failures.
UESF Executive Vice President Frank Lara countered that the acceptable error rate should be zero, advocating for complete accuracy. Dr. Su attributed the errors to staff unfamiliarity with the new system and indicated that better training would be implemented. The district's leadership aims to hold itself accountable, emphasizing the need for reliable payroll to support educators. As the school year approaches, the resolution of these issues remains critical for maintaining stability within school communities.
