San Francisco, CALocal News

Brian Lawrence has been appointed to the Mt. Diablo Unified School District Board of Education, representing Trustee Area 4, which includes parts of Concord, Walnut Creek, and Clayton. The provisional swearing-in occurred on August 4, conducted by Superintendent Adam Clark. Lawrence replaces Cherise Khaund, who stepped down in June to join the Walnut Creek Planning Commission. His appointment will remain unless a petition for a special election is filed within 30 days.

Lawrence previously served on the board from 2012 to 2020, bringing familiarity with district issues. He has two daughters currently enrolled in high school and two sons in college, indicating a vested interest in the district's education system. This transition comes at a critical time as the district navigates educational challenges and community needs. Local officials emphasize the importance of stable leadership amid ongoing developments in education policy.
