Bay Area Air District reaches agreement with Argent Materials over air quality violations
The Bay Area Air District has reached an agreement with Argent Materials to address air quality violations at its East Oakland construction material recycling facility. Under the agreement, Argent will install air quality monitors and track emissions in real-time for the next three years, with potential financial penalties for non-compliance. The air district denied Argent's expansion permit earlier this year, citing health risks associated with increased toxic air emissions. Argent's new permit application is set to be evaluated by the end of September. Philip Fine, executive officer of the Air District, stated that the agreement ensures community oversight and public health protection.
The air district aims to hold facilities accountable to the communities they serve. This initiative aligns with broader efforts to improve air quality and public health in the region. The agreement marks a significant step in regulating local environmental practices and safeguarding community health.
