Summer Dance Festival Returns to ODC for two weekends

San Francisco, CALocal News

Fact/SF will host its sixth annual Summer Dance Festival at ODC from August 15-17 and August 22-24, showcasing dancers from cities like Chicago and Brooklyn. After the pandemic, founder Charlie Slender-White restructured the festival to include an open application process, allowing for a more equitable selection of artists. The festival now compensates artists for their contributions, with Slender-White stating, "Let’s acknowledge that this is not optional labor. " This year’s lineup features a diverse array of artists, including Jenna Riegal, who will premiere her new work, to the marrow. Each weekend offers distinct performances, ensuring varied experiences for attendees.

Slender-White highlighted the festival's goal of going beyond mere entertainment, representing a wide range of identities. The festival's commitment to accessibility is reinforced by its “No One Turned Away for Lack of Funds” policy. This approach not only supports artists but also fosters a more inclusive audience experience.
