Every kid is going to visit Maritime museum envisions future home in downtown Stockton
The Stockton Maritime Museum is set to relocate the USS Lucid to a new downtown site, enhancing its role as a tourist attraction and educational resource. The project will include a replica of the historic Colberg Boat Works and a spacious event area for community gatherings. Museum president David Rajkovich noted that the new location could become an iconic landmark. The USS Lucid, a 172-foot minesweeper built in the 1950s, has been meticulously restored by volunteers over 12 years, preserving its historical significance. The museum aims to honor veterans while providing educational opportunities for local students.
Although a clear timeline for the project is not established, the museum has secured funding for initial planning. City Councilman Michael Blower praised the ambitious plans, highlighting the project's potential to invigorate the downtown area. Community engagement and further funding efforts will be crucial for the project's success.
