Stockton city manager to probe use of funds without approval for entertainment event

San Francisco, CALocal News

Stockton city officials initiated an investigation into the unauthorized use of $50,000 from the Risk Mitigation Fund for an entertainment event. The funds were allocated to secure the Wild ‘N Out Live Tour featuring Nick Cannon, raising concerns about Vice Mayor Jason Lee's involvement with event promoters. Allegations suggest that Lee’s conduct may violate city policies, prompting City Councilmember Brando Villapudua to request intervention from the city attorney. Villapudua's letter details complaints against Lee, including accusations of creating a hostile work environment and verbal abuse. Jason Perry, general manager of ASM Global Stockton, argued that the funding was essential to prevent the cancellation of the show, emphasizing its positive impact on the local economy.

He noted that Stockton had already lost 16 shows in 2025 due to federal mandates affecting entertainment in the area. The investigation will determine if any city policies were ignored and the implications of Lee's actions on city governance. The outcome could influence local governance and accountability standards.
