Couple in American Nightmare Vallejo kidnapping case wins 2025 Witness of the Year award

San Francisco, CALocal News

Denise Huskins and Aaron Quinn received the 2025 Witness of the Year Award from the California District Attorneys Association for their advocacy in the wake of their kidnapping case. Their ordeal began in March 2015 when former U. S. Marine Matthew Muller broke into their home, assaulted Huskins, and later released her. Initially, police suspected Quinn of staging the kidnapping, which led to media comparisons with the novel and film "Gone Girl.

" Since then, the couple has worked alongside the El Dorado County District Attorney's Office to reform police interview techniques, focusing on transparency and fairness. The award is seen as a significant recognition of their courage, highlighting the need for change in how victims are treated. District Attorney Vern Pierson emphasized their transition from being viewed as suspects to advocates for justice. Huskins and Quinn described the award as a testament to progress in the justice system over the past decade. They remain committed to advocating for safer and more just communities for others.
