SF Sunset District poised for new night market in September after previous event's cancellation
After the cancellation of the Sunset Night Market due to city payment delays, community organizers in San Francisco's Sunset District have launched "Sunset After Dark. " Scheduled for September 26, the event will shut down three blocks on Irving Street to support local merchants and foster community spirit. Rob Aiavao, a board member of Dear Community, highlighted the initiative's goal to create a merchant-driven event, filling the void left by the previous market. The smaller event will feature a variety of food vendors, local crafts, and children's activities, promoting local businesses and community engagement. Supervisor Joel Engardio noted that while the new market will not match the scale of the former event, it aims to be more sustainable and frequent.
Aiavao expressed hopes for future larger events if this one proves successful. The initiative reflects a strong local response to previous setbacks, emphasizing community focus and collaboration. Ultimately, "Sunset After Dark" represents a renewed effort to revitalize the Sunset District.
