Livermore father deported to Mexico struggles to find work, worries about losing Bay Area home
Miguel Angel Lopez, who lived in the U. S. for 29 years, was deported to Mexico on June 7 and now faces significant challenges finding work. Previously earning $44 an hour as a welder, he finds that similar jobs in Mexico pay under $3 an hour. His deportation has left his family in California anxious about their financial stability and potential loss of their home.
The Mexican government has initiated programs to assist deportees, yet only 4% have secured employment since January. Lopez's wife, Rosa, fears for their house and is concerned about their financial future. He is exploring side jobs but has seen little success so far. The difficulty of adjusting to life in Mexico adds to their challenges, as Lopez's father notes the precarious job market. Lopez may need to withdraw from his 401k to manage bills if he cannot return to the U.
S. and resume his former job.
