No More Warnings SF Speed Cameras Will Start Issuing Fines, Starting Tuesday

San Francisco, CALocal News

Starting August 5, 2025, San Francisco's speed-monitoring cameras will begin imposing fines on speeding drivers exceeding the speed limit by more than 11 miles per hour. The fines will escalate based on the severity of the infraction, starting at $50 for speeds up to 15 miles over the limit and reaching $500 for speeds over 100 miles per hour. The SF Municipal Transit Agency (SFMTA) installed 33 cameras citywide, capturing around 1,000 speeders daily since their introduction. Previously, these cameras only issued warnings since their rollout in March. The SFMTA has emphasized that clear signage near each camera indicates that violations are "photo enforced," leaving little room for excuses.

Drivers can potentially halve their fines if they qualify as "low income" and apply for a waiver. This initiative aims to enhance road safety by deterring speeding in the city. As enforcement begins, the SFMTA urges drivers to adhere to speed limits to avoid penalties.
