San Ramon School District Pays 7 Million to Alleged Sex Abuse Victims Who Accuse the District of a Cover-Up

San Francisco, CALocal News

Two former students from San Ramon Valley High School received a nearly $7 million settlement for sexual abuse allegations against teacher Ryan Wieble. The claims, which emerged following a recent legal settlement, date back to 2009 through 2012, with one victim, Jane Doe 2, describing grooming behavior where Wieble professed love and touched her without consent. Previous incidents raised red flags, including a night-time office visit with a female student that resulted in the discovery of condoms, yet the district merely reprimanded Wieble. Critics allege the San Ramon Valley Unified School District covered up the abuse, allowing Wieble to resign without accountability. He subsequently moved to another teaching position, although it is unclear if he is still employed there.

The district maintains that it acted within legal hiring practices and disputes the allegations, despite the settlement. Attorney Lauren Cerri emphasized the district's failure to hold Wieble accountable, while one victim condemned the district for protecting the perpetrator. The settlement awards Jane Doe 1 approximately $5. 99 million and Jane Doe 2 $1 million.
