One Shot and Killed at Illegal East Oakland Nightclub, Dozens Detained

A shooting at an illegal nightclub in East Oakland resulted in one person dead and numerous attendees detained early Sunday morning. Police responded to a ShotSpotter alert around 3:45 a. m. at the venue located on 85th Avenue. According to the Oakland Police Department, the victim died at the scene, prompting an investigation into the club's illegal activities.

Many attendees reported being locked inside the club prior to police arrival, with some detained for as long as eight hours. Witnesses described the situation as chaotic, with one detainee stating, "A lot of people were, like going crazy. " Authorities have not specified any charges against those detained, nor have they released the victim's identity while attempting to contact next of kin. The club reportedly operated illegally for months, raising concerns about public safety in the area. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Oakland Police Department.
