Delta Pilot Arraigned In Contra Costa County on 24 Counts of Child Abuse Mother Also Arrested

Jennifer Powell, a 45-year-old mother from Contra Costa County, has been arrested for her role in the sexual abuse of her daughter, which spanned five years and involved her ex-boyfriend, Delta pilot Rustom Bhagwagar, 34. Bhagwagar was apprehended at San Francisco International Airport and faces 24 felony counts related to child sexual abuse. The victim disclosed that the abuse occurred three to four times a week from ages six to ten, with her mother often present during these incidents. Investigators confronted Powell, who participated in a recorded phone call with Bhagwagar, where he seemingly admitted to the abuse. Both suspects are currently detained at the Martinez Detention Facility, with Bhagwagar's bail set at $15 million, an increase from an earlier reported $5 million.

Powell's bail status remains unclear. District Attorney Diana Becton reiterated the importance of protecting children and ensuring accountability for those who harm them. The case highlights ongoing concerns about child safety and the responsibilities of guardians in preventing abuse.
