The incident occurred shortly before 3 PM, prompting the San Francisco Department of Emergency Management to issue an alert at 3:07 PM regarding blocked right lanes south of Vermont Street. Commuters heading to downtown or the Bay Bridge from the Peninsula were advised to use 280 northbound as an alternative route. CHP officers apprehended the fleeing driver, but there were no immediate reports of injuries. Lanes 3 and 4 remained blocked, contributing to significant traffic delays.

CHP San Francisco tweeted at 3:20 PM to expect delays with no estimate for reopening the lanes. KRON4 reported that the lanes were expected to reopen around 4:30 PM. This incident highlights the ongoing challenges of traffic management in urban areas, especially during peak commuting hours.
