Supervisor Engardio Gets Anti-Sideshow Speed Bumps In the Outer Sunset After a Handful of Sideshows There

San Francisco, CALocal News

Supervisor Joel Engardio took action against illegal street racing by installing anti-sideshow speed bumps at the intersection of 42nd Avenue and Lawton Street in the Outer Sunset. The initiative responds to multiple reports of sideshows that have disrupted the typically quiet neighborhood. Engardio emphasized that the speed bumps are intended to enhance safety for pedestrians and nearby structures, including a church. The San Francisco Municipal Transit Agency also plans to add further safety measures, such as flexible posts and raised bumps, to deter illegal stunt driving at other intersections. Engardio's efforts may also be a calculated move to improve his public image amid a recall effort against him.

Local residents have expressed relief over the installation, which could restore peace to their community. Engardio mentioned in a video that these bumps would prevent cars from swirling during sideshows, which he described as dangerous. This proactive measure may not only address the immediate issue of sideshows but also strengthen Engardio's political position ahead of the September 16 recall vote.
