S.F. sheriff endorses MAGA Trump supporter for governor

San Francisco, CALocal News

San Francisco Sheriff Paul Miyamoto endorsed Chad Bianco, a Republican candidate for governor of California, highlighting a commitment to public safety over political affiliation. Miyamoto confirmed his endorsement, which appears on Bianco's campaign website, stating that law enforcement leaders should support each other regardless of party lines. Bianco, elected sheriff of Riverside County in 2018, has gained notoriety for his tough-on-crime approach and refusal to enforce COVID-19 mandates. He is running on a platform that includes abolishing sanctuary protections for immigrants, reflecting a hardline stance on immigration. Since 2006, no Republicans have secured statewide positions in California, making Bianco’s candidacy significant.

Other San Francisco officials have not joined Miyamoto in endorsing Bianco, indicating a potential divide within local leadership. Miyamoto's office did not respond to requests for further comment on his endorsement. Vice-President Kamala Harris has announced she will not run for governor, leaving space for other Democratic candidates.
