Giant Lake Emerges at 24th and Mission After Water Main Break In Public Works Project
A water main break at the 24th and Mission Muni stop has caused significant disruptions to bus service on the 14-Mission and 49-Van Ness lines. Public Works confirmed that a backhoe accidentally struck an unmarked water main during excavation work, resulting in a large pool of water at the stop on Wednesday afternoon. The water has since receded, but confusion persists about the temporary Muni stop, which is now located about 100 feet away, in front of Rosamunde Sausage Grill. Riders are adjusting to this change primarily through trial and error, as the signage fails to adequately inform them of the stop's relocation. The construction project, part of ongoing infrastructure improvements, is expected to last until August 1, disrupting Muni service and southbound traffic on Mission Street.
This project involves replacing bus pads, which serve as concrete reinforcements at high-traffic stops. Public Works aims to enhance the reliability and safety of Muni services through these upgrades. Riders are urged to remain vigilant due to potential traffic disruptions and changes in bus access.
